Meet the Fodder School 4 Teachers: Angela Kennedy

Meet the teachers behind Fodder School 4 Blog Series graphic for Angela Kennedy

Hello! I’m Wendy Solganik, aka @willa.wanders on Instagram. If this is your first time here on my blog, welcome! I’m pretty excited that you found me and my little corner of the art world.

I’ve done a bazillion kinds of art in my life, and the thing that intrigues me the most today is Mixed Media Collage Art.

I’m such a passionate student of this form of art and I’m obsessed with making and using collage fodder (what the heck is collage fodder?).

I really want to learn everything I can about it. I created an entire online art school called Fodder School where anyone with an interest in Mixed Media Art collage art, handmade books and journaling can come and learn this craft from a variety of incredible instructors, even if you have never made any mixed media art before! At this point, Fodder School is about to enter its fourth year with no intention of slowing down.

If you are looking for a great place to start your mixed media art journey from scratch, can I recommend this $19 course?

In this blog series, I’m going to be introducing you to the instructors that will be joining us in Fodder School as Fodder School 4 instructors. If you want to know all about what Fodder School is, go here.

Next in our amazing roster is Angela Kennedy!

Angela lives in Southern Oregon with her Husband and two sons. She has been a designer for Penny Black Inc, since 2002 and has been into arts and crafts as long as she can remember. When she discovered mixed media in 2007, she started practicing everyday and taking classes; by 2010, she was teaching art online! Angela loves all kinds of mediums, but Watercolor is her true love (which she would love to teach you more about in Fodder School 4!).

Angela loves adding a dark edge in her art compared to her otherwise light and expressive palette; black is paramount, and an important addition to her color curations. "My favorite combos are blue/green and orange (plus black) and rainbow (plus black 😉)". If you love combining your favorite colors with black to make grungy and complex hues, or you are interested in learning some principles of composition using focal points and watercolor background textures to make these portrait photocards, keep reading to find out more about what Angela will offer in this year's Fodder School!

Angela loves sharing her art and process with others so they can feel good about what they are creating. She is a kind soul who also loves donating her belongings and helping others when she is able to. In Fodder School, she wants to teach students a simple way to add portrait illustrations and watercolors to their skill toolbox, which she says will be "a useful tool in their future arting projects!"

In the Fodder Challenge, Angela invites you to break out your text-based fodder collection and your preferred mark-making mediums as she will show you how to make her version portrait photo card. Along with walking you through her techniques to enrich the texture of an upcycled document using ethereal watercolor washes, she will also show you two methods of preparing a portrait by either following along her drawing tutorial or sourcing photos to collage onto the background. With so many options, keep reading for more information about this year's Fodder Challenge and to find out how you can sign up today!

Angela has heard from hundreds of students that her teaching style is easy and enjoyable to follow. She believes that most of them feel as proud of what they created as she is of them, and she is confident the Fodder School students will leave feeling as equally satisfied after her course. To see more of Angela's art visit her Instagram @pennystamper or click this link to see more of her offers and projects linktr.ee/Pennystamper.

In her Fodder School Class, Angela will expand upon the techniques she touched upon in the Fodder Challenge to give you a deep dive into stylized character illustration and dynamic watercolor foundations. First, you will explore the way Angela likes to experiment with watercolors using salt, layering techniques, and gelli print transfers on the fodder and papers you already have (or the included curated collection of printable ephemera Angela has put together!). She will also show you how to draw and prepare a simple face and figure that you can turn into your own personalized paper doll. With these two elements, Angela will put together 5x7 cards with you, perfect for framing on the wall or using as a very thoughtful gift card! Angela would love to introduce you to her distinct style of character design and compositional arrangements, so keep reading to learn how you can sign up for Fodder School 4 today!
