What If I Stopped Trying to Be PERFECT at Making Art and Everything Else in Life?
Are you one of the millions of people suffering from perfectionism? Don't let this messy art journaling/junk journaling session fool you! This abstract, free, messy style is NOT how I naturally create art (although I sure wish that it was!).
Although messy, abstract art and junk journal pages are what I aspire to create, they don't come naturally to me at all! It wasn't until I accepted that this kind of art did NOT come easily enough for me, and that I could allow myself to make the kind of art more rigid, tight art that easily flowed out of me (most of the time), did I really find my groove with creating.
Does that mean that I am going to forever give up trying to be that "messy" abstract expressionistic artist that I put on a pedestal as the ideal? Probably not!
You'll see me here in this YouTube video trying to explore messy art journaling once again! But since this isn't what comes most natural to me, and I've learned to accept myself a lot more than I used to, and I'm okay with making the kind of art that does come naturally to me.
Even this video feels super imperfect to me, but I published it anyway. You see, there's so much that I could share about this subject, that I want to share with you about it, and this is just what feels like the tip of the iceberg! But I hit publish any way because sometimes it's a lot better to just start than it is to wait until something seems perfect.
In fact, that's always the case, so I'm just going to start with this video and maybe there will be more coming on this particular subject of self-acceptance and overcoming perfectionsim.
I hope you enjoyed watching me make messy art in my art journal! If you would like to create your own handmade journals for your art journaling, the Willa Journals course is a wonderful class to learn the art and craft of making journals! Check that out here!
